What makes a good animated film

I want to just share my story of how I made the animation short film into a digital book. I hope this story will inspire you to pursue a career in animation or other creative fields. After my animation short film gained some attention at various film festivals, I was contacted by a mobile publisher called Storypanda.

For the book, I did not have to create any new animation. I did, however, have to separate all the animation from the composite I created when I made my short animation. All layers were labeled and I used a field guide delivered by Storypanda to ensure none of the artwork was lost when you view the book on the iPad. Previous Next. A good story. Once you figure out what you want to tell or show you can start to storyboard it. Step 2: Create the Characters A good place to start is designing the characters for your animated video.

First I put in number 23 and 31 on a light box. To add in-betweens to this, you would label it with number Always start with the breakdown. In this case, number 25 is exactly halfway between 23 and On the light box you start drawing right in between the two lines of those drawings and that is how you create the breakdown.

When you are done, you take drawing number 25 and 31 and you inbetween those to create number After you are done with that one, you take number 27 and 31 to create the last one in the scene number We usually associate wolves with danger, but they represent the opposition of destructive man in this film.

This type of compelling storyline can captivate viewers old and young. My last quality that I believe is important for animated films to possess, is the animation itself!

I know that I have experienced this quite a few times. The lack of good animation can really detract from the film.

Audiences are less likely to connect with the characters or the story if they are distracted by poor animation. When done right, animation can take you to another world! Pixar, Studio Ghibli, and Disney know how to do this.

As a child, and now as an adult, I have grown to appreciate the affects that these studios have had on my imagination. You forget that you are watching a cartoon because the story combined with crisp animation is so on point. What really makes animation pop is fluidity. When the characters move across the screen smoothly , without jagged or harsh movements, it really adds to the experience. I believe that music, story, and animation are all important qualities for animated films to possess.

Without these traits, animated movies can fall victim to poor ratings, bad box offices, and forgotten stories. Films with these qualities are capable of taking us to new worlds.

The sounds, sights, and words of these films can have a profound impact on those who watch. Think about the movies that you loved as a child.
