Overall Reviews at Nordstrom 4. A typical day at Nordstrom is coming into work not knowing what the day will be like, especially working in the Kidswear Department.

Everyday we do a new floor set for the new inventory that has come in as well as organize our floor and make sure the items are organized to the importance for the customer.

Nordstrom emphasizes the importance on customer service and everyday I make sure I give my best service. Working at Nordstrom I learned how to separate work and personal life. Nordstrom is a full time job so being present everyday I learned to not take work home with me and to end each day knowing I did my best and the next day will be better.

Also, I learned more about patience. Customers at Nordstrom expect a lot from employees and sometimes it was hard to stay patient but keeping the professionalism and calmness makes a difference in the customer experience. Lastly, I learned to adapt to change well. Nordstrom went through the biggest change and decreased the number of managers and that changed the way work flowed everyday.

I was able to adapt to manager changes, staff changes, and schedule changes. I learned that you never know how the day will go so have an open mind and be ready to adapt. Management at Nordstrom is very structured. I appreciate Nordstrom for this. I have a great rel Pros Great relationships, long breaks, commission pay, and having fun with families yet still being professional.

Cons Commission pay, benefits. I went into Nordstrom right after I graduated college. I have been selling shoes and was under the impression I would make a good salary and have opportunities to advance in the company, neither have come true for me. The managers will overwork you. You will sell a lot of product but what is not told in your interview is that a lot of that product you sell will come back in returns. That affects you. You could sell 15, in a pay period and receive 1, in commission but much of that will come back in returns and bite you in the butt in your upcoming paychecks.

For example this pay period I sold 13, of product and over 4, of that product from that pay period has come back in returns. So I am starting this next pay period basically owning the store the commission I have lost. Another HUGE downfall is that whatever you make in minimum wage is subtracted from your earnings in commissions. This is a big deal breaker and a LOT of people quit after they find this out. Nordstrom will NOT tell you this, you have to figure it out in your first paycheck.

For example if you make in your hourly wage and 1, in commissions, the will be subtracted from your 1, in commissions leaving your paycheck at even. This guarantees your hourly wage which is the law, but it takes a lot out of the commission which is a big downfall and disappointing when you work so hard.

Pros Meet lots of people, employee discount. What is a good commission rate for sales? Management is very accommodating and understanding. Great team atmosphere and very goal oriented.

Marshall is a wonderful company to work. The managers and associates always help whenever there is need. Marshalls Indeed. Dress code is business casual. Pros great dicount. Cons expensive place to shop. Yes There are 1 helpful reviews 1 No. They will pay you as little as possible. They are all about money here.

They put a new algorithm in place to prevent employees from being able to get raises. All of us who had been with the company for years were promised our tiny 25 cent hourly raises due in May. They announced nobody will get their raise and the unfair algorithm is going away in April, literally days before raises were expected for employees who had been loyal to the company for years.

It gets extremely ugly between salespeople because they push you so hard to make your goals or else you will be unemployed and at risk of homelessness. Their benefits are good in terms of health insurance, but you have to work consistent full-time hours to qualify for benefits and they are FAMOUS for cutting hours just below or far below this threshold at the cost of your healthcare.

Once again, a lot of favoritism here. Whoever they like most who likely sells the most will get more hours. Their - more Yes There are 2 helpful reviews 2 No There are 1 unhelpful reviews 1. I thoroughly enjoyed working at Nordstrom in the Women's Shoe Department. I had an amazing team and loved selling in that environment. The only thing I disliked is the inconsistent management. Management changed frequently and would often restructure.

Which, as one of our departments top sales-people, would ultimately effect our money negatively. For example, management designating customers to certain sales-people. Which obviously came with a lot of bias. Pros reasonable commission structure; employee discount; benefits. Cons management. Blood sucking leaches that will take everything you have and give nothing back to you.

Pros Nothing. Cons Everything. Yes No There are 2 unhelpful reviews 2. Rate your recent company Share your experience to help others. High expectations yet poor compensation. The workload and job expectations were constantly increasing.

The standards and expectations placed upon us as employees were very high. However the pay rates do not increase to follow suit. The hours were very long and the recognition for those very little. I regularly felt overworked and under appreciated. The room for advancement was also very minimal.

The hard work simply felt as if it was truly not worth it -especially due to the lack of recognition and compensation. I had been with this company for many years and became increasingly frustrated with my efforts to stay loyal. Pros Health benefits. Cons Poor compensation and little room for advancement.

It is highly competitive and although at times there is money to be made, it is not for sensitive people, or introverts.

Company is moving more towards a digital platform which creates less revenue for salespeople. Pros Discounts. Cons Long Hours in upwards of 9hours a day. Nordstrom was a great place to work as a younger person trying to get through college. Hours were long but balanced, and at least two days off a week were standard. Time and a half on Sundays and holidays, though working during the holidays was sometimes a bummer--but the sales made up for it. If you don't reach your specified "SPH" sales per hour then you will be paid hourly wage for that hour, so sales are often competitive between coworkers.

Working in shoes, the employees were arguably the most diverse across the board, both men and women, younger and older. Plus, employee discounts at the Rack, the Ebar, the Cafe and in general were nice.
