Most people purchasing a greyhound puppy are in the racing industry and already know how to appraise and value a greyhound pup based upon his or her bloodline. You can easily identify a greyhounds by their distinctive snout, large lungs, and tiny stomach.
Greyhounds originally appeared in the Middle East and have been bred by Egyptian, Roman, and English nobility to be ultra-fast hunting dogs.
For many years only the nobility could own a greyhound, and a greyhound was even given sainthood by a misguided French priest. Racing greyhounds and other sighthounds, such as whippets have an unusual physiology that helps them race.
Compared to other dogs, sighthounds have more red blood cells, a larger heart, and higher blood pressure. These cardiovascular adaptations are part of what makes them so fast. Make sure your veterinarian knows that greyhounds are special- common dog anesthesia can kill a greyhound! If you adopt a retired racer, you get a greyhound with an excellent bloodline that likely cost its owner a lot of money in exchange for a nominal donation to your local chapter of the Greyhound Pets of America GPA.
For example, our dog Imark Kenny was sired by a record holding retired racer. One of my biggest surprises about adopting a greyhound is that everyone wants to talk to me about how we rescued him from a horrible environment. Cesar continually talks about how dogs love being in packs and having a job to do. I would like to think that he enjoyed racing at the track. We received a nice handwritten note when we adopted Kenny from his former trainer. Both of those are spot on.
Lots of people associate muzzles with mean, uncontrollable dogs. However, for racing greyhounds, muzzles are just a fact of life. Remember how I said that greyhounds have a different dog physiology? Part of that selective breeding resulted in greyhounds having extremely thin skin and less platelets than other dogs. As a result, greyhounds can get cut more easily than other breeds AND bleed a lot more than other breeds.
Greyhounds wear muzzles to protect themselves from themselves as even a play bite might make a mess or require stitches. Greyhounds are pretty tall- male racers can be as tall as 30 inches and weigh more than 80 pounds.
Kenny can easily eat food from our dinner table while standing on all four paws without straining or reaching. To use the parlance of our times, Kenny is sexy and he knows it. While greyhounds can run faster than any dog, they have almost no endurance.
In fact, greyhounds need at least 18 hours of sleep a day. Kenny is happiest on his dog bed where he spends almost all of his day. He has a very strict schedule of a post breakfast nap, mid-day nap, and pre bedtime nap. All mammals need some exercise.
While greyhounds are a very low energy dog breed, they do need some exercise every day. Otherwise, you can take them for walks. We happily walk Kenny 2 miles in the morning and another 2 sometime in the evening and would walk him more if he would tolerate it. Rita H. November 9, I liked the service. San Antonio to Monterrey. Norma C. It was actually 3 busses. But when I arrived in Los Angeles I discovered that there was a direct bus to San francisco at around the same time.
But when I was searching for my ticket that option wasn't offered to me. So I could've avoided two bus changes and could've had just one instead. So, that was a shame. I also want to say that Beverly, the driver from Los Angeles to Sacramento sched on the 7th of November was very cool and she did a great job.
Even though the bus was late to Sacramento it wasn't the driver's fault. The company should account for traffic when making a schedule which they didn't. But Beverly was great, please give her a bonus or an extra day off. San Diego to San Francisco. Ainur A. Appreciate the ride. Can't beat the cost of a ticket. Del Rio to San Antonio.
Rebecca G. I thought it was on time and I was satisfied. Buffalo to Binghamton. Malcolm B. November 8, Everything was fine this trip but last trip sucked.
Their email confirmation stated the wrong departure time. That departure time was not even a departure time at all ever at that station. So I had to take a dollar Uber to my destination. They refused to credit my bank card back the the fare. Even though it was their fault. Scammers After 4 days of arguing with those scammers I just accepted the voucher.
Tampa to Dothan. Chris C. November 7, The people was not pleasant. Las Vegas to Amarillo. Tyreek J. Horrible experience never will do it again just a waste of money had to make it to some place on time and I was an hour late and then they said I couldn't book me till the next day and there was no way I could do that and of course the tickets are non-refundable and now I'm out bucks and had to get a rental car and drive an entire night up to Chico State and it was a complete and total joke no one wore a mask there's absolutely filthy no one respected one another and the bus driver was absolutely non-communicative whatsoever.
San Diego to Chico. Nicolas D. November 6, The bus never showed and was told of a the hour delay. Which would cause me to sleep on the streets of Dallas on a layover. This is the third time this has happened. Perry to Houston. Tobi M. Horrible experiences. New York to Oklahoma City. Daniel B. Very good transportation to many Va places in the us. Oklahoma City to Dallas. Sawsan H. Good quality service at a reasonable price. Albany to Boston. Maxim C. November 5, New York to Richmond.
Bamikole Peter O. The bus arrived at a different station than the ticket said. Atlanta to Columbus. Sarah P. November 4, Denver to San Antonio. Sergio G. It was horrible! The bus never came and no one was able to help me! Charlottesville to Virginia Beach. Alysia H. November 3,
