Hotwire why so cheap

They advertise they use only the top rental car companies. Anyone here use Hotwire for car rentals? I use them all the time - be sure you are comparing apple to apples final total cost is all you care about.

They are selling excess inventory and you don't get to choose your rental company - usually Hertz or National in my experience. Check with your own insurance coverage - you probably do not need to buy additional, over priced coverage from the car company. We've used Hotwire to rent cars many times. Never a problem. If you're renting in a city served by Southwest, check out the rates on the SW site whether you're flying them or not. If you do rent from the SW site, check and recheck their rates up to the date you rent.

You can often get a lower rate at the last minute. Just booked our car thru Hotwire. Got a Hertz rental. Now another question. I have been trying to find this information out for quite sometime, and couldn't seem to get a straight answer. So i went ahead and called each of the "major" car rental companies at the Miami airport. Just talked to Alamo.

This was the number. Couldn't get through to the MIA office. Seems to be different answers depending who you talk to.

They gave us a queen which was fine but then I slept on a soiled pullout sofa where it looked like someone dumped on the mattress, the linens had hairs in them but the worst part is it has springs you feel through the old thin mattress. Hotels should say if they are counting a 35 dollar old pullout as a true bed. Priceline does not but Hotwire allows them to get away with it. They wanted 72 dollars to upgrade to a room with 2 queens.

Don't book here if you have 3 people or more unless you like the feel of a wavy mattress and springs in your back. Customer service said, "Type of bed is not guaranteed so live with it. Horrible customer service, steals people money off credit cards, no good at all. Tell whole bunch of lies to keep your money.

I decided to Cancel I call spoke with the agent she told me I can cancel and get full refund. Having a terrible time with Hotwire customer service, getting in touch with a live agent. I entered both my associated phone number and itinerary number and the automated service does not recognize the number.

This is terrible service and when I got on chat, they said they can't help me and call at a less busy time. I can't imagine ever dealing with this again, a huge lessons learn for future airline, hotel and auto reservations. It's because when I called the airlines they said I need to call hotwire. I booked a car rental with Hotwire.

Hotels, for example, might distinguish themselves from other hotels by offering the best location, the best service, or superior amenities.

Without product differentiation, hotel rooms become, more or less, perfect substitutes for one another, and prices fall accordingly. Opaque pricing can be applied to anything: hotel rooms, airline tickets, cruises, and car rentals. Price-sensitive customers are those who make purchase decisions based predominantly on the price of a good or service. Hotwire and Priceline customers visit these websites specifically because they are looking for the best price for their hotel room, and as such, the sites are able to price discriminate.

By promising hotels that their names will remain a secret until after purchase, the hotels accept a lower price. This enables the websites to pass these lower prices onto consumers who are indifferent about specific hotel differences. In exchange, the hotels can fill rooms that would otherwise have stayed empty and increase their revenue per available room RevPAR without compromising their rate integrity.

If hotels have established themselves as luxurious or high-end, they cannot sell rooms using the traditional supply and demand curve—where prices are lowered until the hotel is sold out—because it would cheapen the brand. By hiding hotel names, Hotwire and Priceline are able to offer lower prices until rooms are sold because only the purchasers will know exactly how low the price has temporarily fallen.

As The Cornell School of Hotel Administration and Hospitality: Cutting Edge Thinking and Practice says, this allows hotels to reach both their regular brand-loyal and new price-sensitive customers.

Another advantage for hotels in using Hotwire and Priceline is that price-sensitive customers could shift their brand- or star-loyalties towards the new hotel. For example, price-sensitive guests who typically stay in 2.
