We have only seen a porcupine once, in a provincial park in Nova Scotia Kejemakujik more than 20 years ago. As my years go by, I so appreciate your nature sounds and photos.

They bring back lots of memories. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Those are amazing sounds! At times, it sort of sounds like air being let out of a balloon. Very strange — and cute! Well, I just checked out Teddy the porcupine eating a pumpkin and there he is talking up a storm … happy mews and squeals, pleasure sounds! How sweet can it get? Go see! This is great! Don't get me wrong, this is great, but I tend to prefer my pets on the fuzzy side, not the "covered in quills" category. Porcupines make vocalizations that freak me out. It's hard to describe these sounds. The closest I can get is to imagine a Star Wars Ewok on speed. If two males are fighting over a female, agitated howls may be audible.

Some porcupine sounds at night may be similar to a bird's caw. Damage caused by porcupines is mainly confined to stripping bark and leaves from plants. However, curious dogs might get a muzzle full of quills, which are painful and can become infected if not removed promptly. When property owners hear porcupine noises or notice other signs of their presence, the quickest route to safe exclusion and removal is contacting Critter Control.
